rdg - the beginning

This is only The Beginning……

RDG’s debut album, The Beginning, proves to be the life of the party. I found the beats to be very infectious. Listening to the album made me want to either bob my head or dance. Another key factor is the way the album was mixed. In my opinion I felt the tracks were well mixed and nothing felt out of place. You can also feel amazing energy throughout the album. The energy allows the listener to enjoy the album without getting bored and on the dance floor it just keeps you going. Standout songs include Shawty Bad and Just Walked Up.

Girls love a song where the guy is bragging about how some girl looks or acts. The female listeners can then claim the song as if the song was about them. With Shawty Bad I can definitely see that happening. Shawty Bad is also well produced with the lyrics and beat that mixed well. Walked Up is a grandstand anthem. Listeners can relate to going to the club and people” straight hating”. The cocky lyrics that RDG spits, made this song what it is. The beat on this song is not as amped as the others but still full of energy. Both these songs have nice melody in the background. In my opinion judging by the album and numbers on myspace, RDG is definitely on the rise. Remember folks, this is only The Beginning.

‘Notorious’ Movie Review

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

It’s 7:45pm at the AMC theaters, NYC. Sold out shows results in pushing and shoving. Everybody wants to find great seats for the biopic of slain Brooklyn rapper, Christopher “Notorious B.IG.” Wallace. Jamal “Gravy” Woolard did an amazing job bringing Biggie back to life. The resemblance was uncanny. He had his speech and mannerisms down to a science. Kudos to the casting director because everyone played their part wonderfully. At first, I was unhappy with Derek Luke as Puffy. But after watching the movie, my opinion did a 360. He was so entertaining and had Puffy’s character and dance down packed. I enjoyed Faith’s character played by Anonique Smith. In my opinion she really helped capture who Faith was.

This movie focuses on important events in Biggie’s life. Thank god they didn’t fluff the movie with unnecessary film. “Notorious” allows the audience to get to know Biggie in different ways. You get to know his relationship with his mom, Faith, Diddy, and Kim. Another thing I liked about the movie is how certain songs were tied into import times of his life.

The audience’s reaction to the movie was priceless. For those 2 hours we were all united watching this legend come to life. It was touching to hear the people rap along to Biggie’s hit ‘Juicy”. Overall I give this movie 5 stars and I suggest anyone and everyone who loves Hip-Hop to go out and support!

AP “Da Body’s“ latest mixtape is correctly titled The Best of AP 2008. Throughout the mixtape you get familiar with his personality. His confidence and witty punch lines snatch your attention and don’t let go until the end. Another key element is how he talks each song out. By doing this, listeners feel as if AP is talking directly to them and builds a connection. Also, all the smack he talks is hilarious to listen to. The beats are crazy and they are produced and mixed by Da Body himself. I also found AP’s music to be very melodic. Whether its your head nodding or letting your body sway, listeners can vibe either way. Also be sure to check his swagger on Brooklyn Collectiv’s grandstand anthem, “You Need Me”, found on this site. Standout songs on “The Best Of…“ include “Suppose To Be” and “N Da Matrix”.

“Suppose to Be” sends out the positive message to do what you do and don’t worry about no one else. I am sure a lot of people have experienced a little hate in their lives ,so this song just encourages you to keep striving. The beat and the lyrics set an incredible vibe and give you that “can do” attitude. “Ya cant mess with my crew Da Body”. “N Da Matrix“, is his powerful crew anthem. AP rocks the mic ready for war on this song. He gets on the mic and you FEEL his presence.

AP is definitely an artist to look out for!! He is on the rise with about 1,700,000 plays on Myspace and so many videos and so many views on Youtube, I like to let numbers do the talking.
